With a week to go, 24 of us from Wales will descend on the sun baked Triathlon Island of Lanzarote.
For the first time the race will be take part in Arrecife and will also host the spanish long distance championship. The race distance is slightly different than your average long course tri, having just under 2 miles of swimming, 80 miles bike and an 18 mile run! Still a long way ! Especially in a cape !
But this race for many is a great way of simply getting together with friends and finishing the year off with the sun on our backs ! Well on the cape at least!
Batman has agreed to head back to the sunny shores of where it all began – so one would have thought a beer would be necessity – although I have a feeling he is going to be a little too quick for me this time around !
Lanzarote is a fantastic training ground all year; especially ideal if you have signed up to an early marathon / Ironman next year. Many resorts such as Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise now have fantastic sea fronts, paved with miles of running and safe cycling.
Team Wales will be staying all over the island, but at some point they will find each other; and when they do I have a feeling it will be the impromptu party of the year !
