4 x 100 Descending

Someone asked me in the pool this morning, how do I know I am going harder every 100?

So the board says 4x100 Descending - Getting faster each 100...

But how do I know I am getting faster?  

Yes, the clock is on the wall and you have your watch ticking away, but really you can't mid 100 have a look at the clock! So essentially, a lot of the time it comes down to feel.  Also, what is this set asking of you?  Ultimately to push harder each 100.  The last one is everything you have in the bag!

I am certainly no coach, and I do tend to train a little unconventional at times; so let that be a disclaimer here!! 

Based on a 25m pool, so its 4 lengths, I break it down the following way:

Set 1 

Length 1 - Push Hard 
Length 2,3 and 4 - Focus on technique.

Set 2

Length 1&3 - Push Hard
Length 2&4 - Technique - Maybe a different area of the stroke to the first set?

Set 3 

Length 1,3&4 - Push Hard
Length 2 - Technique

Set 4

Its all out every length; but keep the technique there - just keep pushing hard, tempo and ensure you get a big pull on every stroke -

It's supposed to hurt!
